The Plant Protection Department is composed by a multidisciplinary research team (entomologists, weed scientists and plant pathologists including mycology, bacteriology and virology). Its activities are addressed to generate knowledge on the nature and dynamics of agricultural ecosystems, particularly to the study of their natural biodiversity and of biological and of ecological interactions between productive crops and wild species (including weeds, pests, diseases and potentially beneficial species).

 

 

 

Its main objectives are the knowledge of factors that lead to the proliferation and distribution of pests, diseases and weeds and the optimization of techniques for an integrated management of agricultural ecosystems, based on the use of their natural biodiversity and allowing the control of pests, diseases and weeds reducing the economical cost and the environmental impact of the agricultural activity.
